Hold the Line: Rain postpones Game 6

Well, so much for that.

After looking forward to Game 6 of the World Series all day, it turns out the field in St. Louis was not fit for a ballgame tonight. Rain postponed the matchup between the Rangers and Cardinals until Thursday night. If a Game 7 is needed, it will take place Friday night.

Bit of a letdown, especially since Texas is carrying momentum from two straight victories in the series, but I can't see the postponement having an effect on the outcome. Both starting pitchers (Matt Harrison, Jaime Garcia) will benefit from an extra day of rest. Position players also have the opportunity to rest any nagging injuries. The rainout won't matter.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of this 2011 postseason run is the animated nature of Rangers manager Ron Washington. Most people, myself included, immediately think of Washington's pattering of the feet or his waving the windmill when sending someone around third base from the dugout. I'll get to that. But I really wanted to put into perspective how much progress Washington's teams have made over the years. It's quite incredible:

2007: 75-87, last place AL West
2008: 79-83, second place
2009: 87-75, second place
2010: 90-72, first place, AL Champions, World Series runner-up
2011: 96-66, first place, AL Champions, ?

If we win the World Series, Washington would have improved the club in every single facet of each year. Hell of a job.

But yeah, back to the fun stuff. Try this out for some laughs:

We'll have to wait another day before Game 6.

I'm actually moving from Lawrence to Kansas City on Saturday morning, which could be the first day of the offseason. Hopefully, the Rangers provide me with a going-away present that would surely be ingrained in my mind for the rest of my life.
